Domestic Gas Engineer

The course is designed for people with little to no experience. The course is spread over separate lessons which will tackle different areas all relevant to the Gas Engineer course. Learning is done through a combination of both PC based learning and practical workshops. Through the e-learning you shall be using virtual reality simulation software to hone your skills and then later practise these for real in the workshop sessions.

You will receive a set of industry standard manuals that will enable you to work through the course syllabus. You will be supported throughout your course by experienced instructors who are available by both telephone and email. By the end of the course you will be ready for your new career as a gas engineer.

The practical workshop sessions take place in a customised practical learning centre specifically designed for this reason.  In these centres you will undertake practical training and tuition in multiple areas including pipework instalments, low pressure meters, ventilation, flueing, specific appliances, regulators, as well as safety lots more. Below are some of the units that will be covered in the course.

  • Gas cookers
  • Warm air heaters
  • Central heating systems
  • Installation of pipework and fittings
  • Low pressure meter installations
  • Open flues & room sealed flues
  • Showers
  • Cold & hot water systems
  • Domestic hot water systems

  • Lots more....

Once you have successfully completed the course you will be have the knowledge, skills and qualifications to gain employment as a lawfully qualified domestic gas engineer.  Beyond this there are opportunities to work in moiré specialised areas such as Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) and solarheating systems.

  • NICEIC certificated, Basic Gas Utilisation
  • City & Guilds certificated, 6084 Energy Efficiency
  • ACS Certification, Core Gas Safety (CCN1)
  •  ACS Certification, Domestic Central Heating and Central Heating Boilers (CEN1) ACS Certification, Water Heaters (WAT1)

Practical Training & Assessment: In Centre Training - 7 Weeks

  • Practical training & tuition to include combustion, low pressure meters, pipework installation requirements, meters and tightness testing
  • Ventilation taking into account specific appliances, flueing, regulators and working with different types of gas pipework
  • Gas safety controls, identification of unsafe situations and emergency procedures as well as applying gas safety regulations
  • to real life situations
  • Specific appliance installation, service & maintenance to include cookers, fires, water heaters and wet central heating
  • systems – (weeks 1 to 4 combine in the issue of the NICEIC Basic Gas Utilisation Certificate)
  • ACS preparation & revision training of Core Gas Safety plus appliances, also the City & Guilds 6084 Energy Efficiency revision
  • and online examination
  • ACS theory & practical assessment week covering CCN1, CKR1, HTR1, WAT1, CEN1 and CPA1
